Next week will mark the 9 month ampuversary for our 6-year-old pitbull Phoenix. She continues to exude happiness as she hops through life. We’ve taken her (and our adopted 12-year-old beagle Chloe) numerous times to Eureka’s dog park. We typically stay about 30-40 minutes, and each time Phoenix seems a little friskier–and consequently, more tired when we leave. Mutliple people there have commented on how well she gets around. At home Phoenix continues to be a tail-wagging, face-licking friend who wants to climb up on the laps of two male friends (both dog owners).

We're a senior retired couple (one ceramic artist, one writer) living in Eureka--on Northern California's redwood coast. We each grew up in NYC but met here in Humboldt County 25 years ago. We feel blessed that our three prior dogs (all females) each lived to age 14+ years. Our beagle Chloe crossed over into K9 heaven in August, 2017, and left behind her younger "sister," Phoenix, our tripawd. She's a sweet, tail-wagging, face-licking, pit bull. Phoenix joined our pack in December, 2014 [4+ years ago], three months after her right front leg was amputated at age 4-5? Phoenix had been hit by 3 cars in the SF Bay Area, and two great Samaritans named Ralph & Mya stopped traffic to rescue Phoenix on the road and drive 5+hours north to Miranda's Rescue, a no-kill facility in our county.

Yaaaay Phoenix! Can’t even believe nine months have gone by, it just flew! Well you guys are great and so inspawrational to anyone thinking of adopting a three-legger or making the big decision to live the Tripawd lifestyle. Your story inspires more people than you’ll ever know. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of it!
Thanks for your comment, Jerry. Yes, folks are initially curious about why Phoenix is missing a leg, but some seem surprised that Judi & I met and adopted Phoenix after her leg was amputated. We love her. She’s a smart and affectionate dog, and definitely has a “glass is hall FULL” attitude.
